Could you briefly tell us who Raúl is and what has been your professional background?
I am the co-founder of Ecodicta, alongside Mercedes García. My background in Political Science and a Master's in International Relations has provided me with a global perspective, but my true focus has always been innovation and the world of startups, especially those committed to social and environmental impact. How did I get here? The answer lies in my constant desire to transform industries.
How did the idea of creating Ecodicta come about?
Ecodicta was born from a critical observation: the fashion industry was trapped in overproduction and waste. We saw an opportunity to do something radically different. Why not share wardrobes? A concept as simple as it is revolutionary, where clothes can rotate among people instead of being abandoned in the back of a closet. This idea was the driving force behind creating a more conscious business model, where unnecessary purchases are a thing of the past.
What is the main objective, and how does it work?
We have set ourselves a clear goal: to accompany our clients not only in their style but also in their transition to more sustainable consumption. We offer a platform that allows access to quality fashion without the need to own it. Through a subscription and rental model, we make fashion accessible, functional, and, most importantly, responsible. Because at the end of the day, what we aim for is for people to accumulate experiences, not clothes
What are the biggest challenges Ecodicta faces?
One of the biggest challenges is convincing brands that they can thrive without producing more. This is fundamental. But there’s also the challenge of changing clients’ mindsets: helping them see that unused clothing impacts not only the environment but also the people who produce it. It’s a dual responsibility, and achieving this mindset shift is key to our success and the industry’s future.
What businesses can benefit from Ecodicta’s services?
Our model is designed for small and medium-sized companies that are already inclined toward sustainability. We offer them the ability to implement circular models easily, and we help them operate as second-hand shops. This not only allows them to generate additional revenue but also reinforces their commitment to a more conscious and environmentally respectful fashion model.
What role does technology play in Ecodicta?
Technology is, without a doubt, the backbone of Ecodicta. From our e-commerce platform, which allows clients to select garments for rental or sale, to the use of social media to educate and raise awareness. Additionally, we are constantly seeking new technological solutions to optimize the second-hand business. Our technological vision is not just to improve operations but to make sustainability more accessible to everyone.
How do you see the future of fashion and Ecodicta’s role in it?
I see a future where fashion is almost entirely sustainable. There will be fewer garments, but they will be of higher quality. We will move away from senseless consumerism and embrace fashion as a tool for self-expression, not an end in itself. Ecodicta will play a crucial role in this change, guiding both brands and clients in their transition to circular models like second-hand and rental.
What advice would you give to other companies looking to adopt more sustainable practices?
Sustainability is not a destination; it’s a journey. It’s an ongoing learning process, where new tools and solutions emerge daily to reduce environmental impact. My advice would be to commit to fostering a culture of sustainability within your organization, dare to innovate, and view sustainability not only as a responsibility but as an opportunity to grow and differentiate yourself in the market.
Raúl leaves us with a clear vision: the future of fashion lies in sustainability. Ecodicta is leading the way with its clothing rental model, demonstrating that it is possible to combine style and responsibility. His final message: sustainability is an opportunity to innovate and grow.
